MCP Setup

Setting up a Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector to compatible AI assistants — such as Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, etc. — lets you talk to your Credence portfolio data. After authenticating through the web, users receive the same scope and permissions they have on the Credence platform.

For what the connector can do after setup, see MCP Functionality.

Prerequisites

  • A Credence user account with the API permissions your workflow needs
  • An MCP-compatible AI assistant

Add an MCP connector to your AI assistant

Most AI assistants have a similar interface for adding connectors. Here are the steps for Claude Desktop. The main configuration is the MCP address:

https://mcp.credence-software.com

Claude Desktop:

  1. In the Claude Desktop sidebar, select "Customize"
  2. Select the "Connectors" tab.
  3. In the "Add" dropdown button in the upper right, select "Add custom connector"
  4. Under "Name", enter "Credence" (or something descriptive for you).
  5. Under "Remote MCP Server URL", enter https://mcp.credence-software.com
  6. Click "Add".

Authentication

Authentication is handled by the MCP server. The user will be prompted to authenticate with their Credence account via web browser.

Authorization

Authorization is handled automatically by the MCP server when the user talks to Credence. The user will be prompted in chat to authorize Credence. The user will be routed to a web page to confirm the authorization. Users may be asked to regularly re-authorize Credence to access your portfolio data. Creating or updating records requires write authorization and your normal Credence permissions. Reconnect and grant write access if your connection was authorized for reading only. Write authorization does not grant additional portfolio access or bypass approval and review locks. The connector exposes only its supported operations; granting write authorization does not enable every Credence workflow.
